Abbie Cliffe

committee member and breastfeeding peer support

I’m Abbie and I’m a children’s intensive care nurse and mum to one, Oliver. I’ve struggled with anxiety for many years now. When my lovely friend Amy was wanting to set up this group, I was keen to help as I was becoming a first time mum myself and I hoped I would have some experience and understanding of mental health to help others, and meet other like minded mums. Through Sunflower group, I’ve nearly finished my training to become a peer support worker for breastfeeding mums. My breastfeeding journey has been a challenge, and without the support I received from fellow feeding mums and also professional support, there’s no way I would have been able to continue feeding. Now my little boy is 17 months and still feeding! You’ll find me volunteering at Stafford group whenever I’m not at work (and Oliver in tow). I love coming to group, it’s a great place where you can speak openly about your troubles and worries, without fear of judgement.
